My poster and blu ray cover for The Deep (1977). This movie was filmed in Bermuda where I am from, so I have a special attachment to it although it isn’t quite as good as Jaws…that other Peter Benchley novel/movie.
It was directed by Peter Yates, who also directed Bullitt!! My dad used to manage a hardware store and worked with Yates and his team to supply the production with building materials etc. I’ve also met the director of the underwater scenes, Stan Waterman…who gave amazing presentations of his work with all kinds of fun stories.
I wanted to make a poster and bluray from a single illustration…so I painted it wide enough to allow for multiple crops. I think my ‘retro’ style works well for such a cool retro movie.
